MaximaTelecom and Rostelecom launch free Wi-Fi at Moscow Region bus stations
16 July 2020MaximaTelecom’s MT_FREE Wi-Fi network is now available at 13 Mostransavto bus stations and terminals around Moscow.
The Wi-Fi network is built on top of Rostelecom’s existing wired Internet access infrastructure; the company is also responsible for the equipment installation. MaximaTelecom provides Wi-Fi access points and user authorization/identification protocols.
As part of the pilot project, the free MT_FREE network appeared at 13 bus stations and terminals in Moscow Region – in Klin, Mytishchi, Podolsk, Chekhov and Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Pavlovsky Posad, Kurovskoye, Mozhaisk, Kolomna, Lukhovitsy, Fryazino, Vereya and Serpukhov. A total of 55 Wi-Fi access points were installed on those sites.
Free Wi-Fi at bus stations and terminals in Moscow Region will become a part of the unified MT_FREE Wi-Fi space from MaximaTelecom, which operates in 20 Russian cities from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. A user connecting to the network for the first time must authenticate with their phone number. Users who previously registered with MT_FREE do not need to identify themselves again.
Over the past year, passenger traffic at these bus stations and bus terminals near Moscow reached almost 23 million passengers. MaximaTelecom, Rostelecom and Mostransavto expect that free Wi-Fi will help passengers while the time away waiting for the bus and increase user loyalty to the companies’ services.
“For seven years now, MT_FREE network has been helping passengers all over Russia to have a better time while on the road and while waiting for the transport. In this short time, free Wi-Fi has become an integral part of the transport infrastructure in large cities. We are glad that the project goes beyond the boundaries of megacities and free internet becomes a vital part of the trip”, says Ilya Cherkasov, MaximaTelecom’s director of infrastructure business.
